RAINPOINT HCS026FRF – Common Issues & Fixes

If the HCS026FRF does not connect or display soil moisture as expected, the information below outlines common operating conditions and recommended actions.

These conditions are usually related to battery status, Gateway connection, pairing distance, soil conditions, or sensor placement rather than product defects.

Condition 1: Soil moisture reading appears inaccurate

Possible Cause

Stones or other hard objects are located close to the sensing area.

What to Do

  • Remove the sensor from the soil.
  • Check the surrounding area for stones.
  • Select a cleaner soil location.
  • Reinstall the sensor to the BEST position.
  • Take another measurement.

The manual specifically identifies stones around the sensor as a possible source of measurement error.

Condition 2: Nothing appears on the LCD

Possible Cause

Battery power is low.

What to Do

Replace all three batteries with new:

AAA alkaline batteries

Check battery polarity before reinstalling the rear cover.

Condition 3: The HCS026FRF cannot pair with the Gateway

Possible Causes

  • The sensor is too far from the Gateway.
  • Too many obstacles are between the sensor and Gateway.
  • The pairing window timed out.
  • Gateway firmware is outdated.

What to Do

  • Move the sensor closer to the Gateway during pairing.
  • Follow the in-app pairing steps again.
  • Open the Gateway page in RainPoint Home.
  • Check Firmware Version.
  • Update the Gateway firmware if an update is available.

Condition 4: The sensor does not appear after selecting Add New Devices

What to Check

  • Confirm that the Gateway is online.
  • Confirm that HCS026FRF was selected in the device list.
  • Install fresh batteries.
  • Keep the sensor close to the Gateway.
  • Restart pairing if the previous pairing window expired.

Condition 5: The sensor needs to be reset

Reset the HCS026FRF as follows:

  1. Remove all batteries.
  2. Wait approximately 10 seconds.
  3. Insert three new AAA alkaline batteries.
  4. Wait for the red LED to flash rapidly.

The rapid red flashing indicates that the sensor has entered pairing mode.

Condition 6: The sensor is difficult to insert

Do not force the probe directly into hard soil.

For hard soil:

  1. Dig an appropriate hole.
  2. Place the sensor into the prepared hole.
  3. Position it at the BEST mark.
  4. Backfill the soil around the probe.

Condition 7: Moisture readings change after selecting a different soil type

This can be expected because the HCS026FRF provides six soil-type modes intended to improve measurement accuracy under different soil conditions.

Make sure the selected Soil Type matches the actual soil as closely as possible.

Condition 8: The app shows a red moisture alert

The RainPoint Home app can display a red alert when the current soil-moisture reading is outside the preset range.

Check:

  • Current soil moisture
  • Selected Soil Type
  • Moisture alert range/settings

The alert does not necessarily indicate a sensor fault.
