If the TCS005FRF does not connect or report soil conditions as expected, the information below outlines common operating conditions and recommended actions.
These conditions are usually related to battery status, pairing mode, RF distance, sensor settings, or Water Timer connection rather than product defects.
Condition 1: The Soil Sensor cannot be found in the app
Possible Causes
- The compatible Water Timer has not been connected first.
- The TCS005FRF is not in pairing mode.
- Battery power is insufficient.
- The sensor is too far from the Water Timer.
What to Do
- Confirm that the compatible Water Timer is online in the app.
- Open the Water Timer and enter the Sensor page.
- Install 3 new AAA alkaline batteries.
- Wait until the initial green LED turns off.
- Press and hold the sensor button for approximately 5 seconds.
- Wait until the red LED turns on.
- Tap the Soil Sensor control in the app.
- Move the sensor closer to the Water Timer during pairing if necessary.
Condition 2: The Soil Sensor control remains gray
A gray Soil Sensor control means the sensor has not yet been connected.
What to Do
Put the TCS005FRF into pairing mode and add it again.
After successful pairing, the Soil Sensor icon changes to green.
Condition 3: Soil moisture or temperature data is not visible
After pairing:
- Open the compatible Water Timer.
- Enter the Sensor interface.
- Confirm that the Soil Sensor is connected.
- Switch to the Parameter interface to view soil data.
The sensor has a specified data update interval of approximately 5 minutes, so app values may not change instantly.
Condition 4: The moisture setting LEDs do not appear
The sensor may be in sleep mode.
What to Do
Press and hold both buttons for approximately 5 seconds.
The LED indicators will wake and display the current Stop Watering Soil Moisture Level.
Condition 5: The Stop Watering Soil Moisture Level cannot be changed
After waking the sensor:
- Press the left button to select the moisture level.
- Select:
- 20%
- 40%
- 60%
- 80%
- 100%
- Press the right button to confirm.
The default value is 60%.
Condition 6: I want to check the current soil moisture immediately
After waking the LED display, press the right Test Now button.
The sensor LEDs indicate the current soil moisture level.
More detailed soil data can be viewed in the app.
Condition 7: The Water Timer does not stop watering at the selected moisture level
Check:
- The soil sensor is successfully paired.
- The selected Stop Watering Soil Moisture Level has been confirmed.
- The sensor probes are inserted into the soil.
- The sensor remains connected to the compatible Water Timer.
The manual states that, after pairing and setting the Stop Watering Soil Moisture Level, the compatible Wi-Fi Water Timer can automatically stop a watering plan when the measured soil moisture reaches the selected level.
Condition 8: Sensor data updates slowly
The specification lists: Data update every 5 minutes
Therefore, the app may not reflect every soil-moisture change immediately.
Allow time for the next sensor update.
Condition 9: The sensor disconnects at a distance
The stated communication range is: Within 100 m / 328 ft in an open area
Actual range may be reduced by the installation environment.
Move the sensor and Water Timer closer together where possible.
