RAINPOINT TCS005FRF – Maintenance & Care

This article provides routine battery, installation, storage, and care guidance for the RAINPOINT TCS005FRF Soil Moisture Sensor.

Proper battery installation and sensor placement help maintain reliable soil monitoring and communication with a compatible RAINPOINT Water Timer.

Battery Care

The TCS005FRF uses: 3 × AAA 1.5V alkaline batteries

The sensor's battery status can be viewed in the app after pairing.

When battery power becomes low:

  1. Remove the sensor from the soil if necessary.
  2. Open the battery compartment.
  3. Replace the batteries with new AAA 1.5V alkaline batteries.
  4. Reinstall the battery cover securely.
  5. Confirm that the sensor reconnects normally.

The specification states a battery life of over 1 year under the stated product conditions.

Sensor Probe Care

The sensing probes should remain in direct contact with the soil during normal use.

If the sensor is removed or relocated:

  • Remove loose soil from the probes before reinstalling.
  • Avoid bending the probes.
  • Insert the probes securely into the new measurement area.

The current manual does not provide a specific chemical-cleaning procedure, so I recommend not using detergents or other cleaning chemicals unless separately approved.

Placement Care

For reliable soil measurements:

  • Insert the probes securely into the soil.
  • Install the sensor in the area being irrigated.
  • Avoid repeatedly moving the sensor unless necessary.

For RF communication:

  • Keep the sensor within approximately 100 m / 328 ft of the compatible Water Timer in an open area.
  • Reduce unnecessary obstacles and distance where possible.

Waterproof Care

The TCS005FRF is specified as: IP67

Keep the battery cover properly installed during outdoor use.

Do not unnecessarily open the battery compartment while the sensor is exposed to water or wet soil.

Long-Term Storage

The current manual does not provide a dedicated long-term storage procedure.

If the sensor will not be used for an extended period, a conservative storage approach is:

  • Remove the sensor from the soil.
  • Remove loose soil from the probes.
  • Allow the exterior to dry.
  • Store the sensor in a dry, protected location.
  • Check battery condition before reuse.

If batteries are removed for storage, reinstall new batteries before reconnecting the sensor.

General Care Tips

Check battery status periodically

Low battery may affect sensor operation or communication.

Keep the sensor within RF range

The specified open-area range is up to approximately 100 m / 328 ft.

Allow for the data update interval

Sensor data updates approximately every 5 minutes.

Do not expect every soil-moisture change to appear instantly in the app.

Keep the sensor paired to the correct Water Timer

If the compatible Water Timer is replaced or the sensor is removed from the system, reconnect the sensor according to the pairing procedure.

Recheck the Stop Watering Soil Moisture Level after setup changes

Available levels are: 20% / 40% / 60% / 80% / 100%

Default: 60%

After-Sales Support
