This article provides routine maintenance and care guidance for the RAINPOINT IK159 Automatic Indoor Drip Irrigation Pump Kit.
Regular cleaning, correct pump placement, proper charging, and appropriate storage can help maintain reliable water flow and reduce common operating conditions caused by debris, trapped air, low water levels, or incorrect tubing installation.
Cleaning the Inlet Filter
The inlet filter helps prevent impurities from entering the pump and irrigation tubing.
Check and clean the filter periodically, especially when the pump is used continuously with a water container.
To clean the filter:
- Stop watering.
- Remove the inlet filter from the water container.
- Disconnect the filter if necessary.
- Rinse the filter thoroughly with clean water.
- Remove visible dirt or debris.
- Reconnect the filter firmly to the inlet tubing.
- Place the filter back into the water container.
- Make sure the filter is fully submerged.
- Run a short manual watering test and check the water flow.
If the water flow becomes noticeably weaker or a water shortage condition occurs even when the container contains water, check the inlet filter first.
Winter Storage
The specified operating temperature of the IK159 is:
37°F–122°F (3°C–50°C)
Do not operate or store the pump where it may be exposed to freezing conditions.
If the irrigation system will not be used during winter:
- Stop the watering plan.
- Remove the inlet filter and tubing from the water container.
- Drain remaining water from the tubing.
- Clean the inlet filter.
- Allow the pump, tubing, and fittings to dry.
- Store the pump and accessories in a clean, dry, frost-free indoor location.
Long-Term Storage
If the IK159 will not be used for an extended period:
- Stop the current watering plan.
- Remove the pump from the water source.
- Drain remaining water from the tubing.
- Clean and dry the inlet filter.
- Check the tubing and fittings for blockage or damage.
- Keep the USB-C charging port clean and dry.
- Store the pump and accessories in a clean, dry location.
- Before using the system again, charge the pump if necessary.
- Perform a manual watering test before restoring regular watering schedules.
General Care Tips
Keep the inlet filter clean
Debris can restrict water flow and affect normal pump operation.
Use clean cold water only
The IK159 is designed for clean cold water.
Check the water level regularly
Make sure the inlet filter remains submerged.
A fast-flashing red Water Shortage Indicator means that a water shortage has been detected.
Keep the tubing connections secure
Make sure the tubing is fully inserted into the IN and OUT ports.
Keep the pump correctly positioned
Place the pump at or above the reservoir water level to reduce the risk of siphoning and backflow.
Keep the height difference within the recommended range
The installation height difference should not exceed: 6.6 ft (2 m)
Release trapped air after tubing changes
After reconnecting or changing the tubing, allow water to flow from the tubing end before installing the end plug.
Keep the USB-C charging port clean and dry
Check the charging port before connecting the USB-C cable.
Use the correct charging input
Use a 5V / 1A USB power source as specified for the IK159.
Check the battery status
- Breathing green: Charging
- Yellow: Low battery
- Red flashes twice: Battery depleted
Recharge the pump when necessary.
