RAINPOINT ICS518 – Maintenance & Care

This article provides routine battery, connector, sealing, and storage guidance for the RAINPOINT ICS518 Hose-end High Precision Flow Meter.

Proper installation and regular inspection help maintain reliable measurement performance and reduce leakage.

Battery Care

The ICS518 uses: 1 × CR2032 button cell battery

Replace the battery when the low-battery indicator appears.

Battery Replacement

  1. Turn off the water supply and remove the meter if necessary.
  2. Insert the supplied Battery Cover Opener into the rear battery-cover notch.
  3. Rotate the cover to open the battery compartment.
  4. Remove the old CR2032 battery.
  5. Install a new CR2032 battery according to the polarity marking.
  6. Firmly reinstall the battery cover.
  7. Confirm normal display operation.

Connector Care

Use the meter in its original Out-of-Box Pre-Assembled configuration whenever possible.

When checking connections:

  • Confirm the correct regional connector.
  • Keep the connector aligned with the thread.
  • Do not force mismatched NH and BSP threads.
  • Inspect for leakage after installation.

Sealing Care

The ICS518 package includes: Teflon Sealing Tape

If additional sealing is required on a compatible threaded connection, use the supplied tape carefully without changing the intended connector configuration.

Do not use sealing tape as a way to force incompatible NH and BSP threads together.

Cleaning

If the ICS518 is removed from the watering system:

  • Allow remaining water to drain.
  • Wipe the exterior clean.
  • Keep the LCD and battery area dry.
  • Check threaded surfaces for dirt or debris before reinstallation.

The manual does not provide a separate internal cleaning procedure, so the flow meter should not be disassembled beyond the battery-access steps described in the instructions.

Long-Term Storage

If the ICS518 will not be used for an extended period:

  • Remove it from the watering line.
  • Allow remaining water to drain.
  • Dry the exterior.
  • Store the connector components together.
  • Keep the Battery Cover Opener with the device.
  • Store the flow meter in a clean, dry location.
  • Inspect the CR2032 battery before reuse.

Because the attached ICS518 manual does not specify a storage-temperature or freeze-protection procedure, I recommend not adding a specific freeze-temperature limit to the Zendesk article unless an approved product specification provides one.

General Care Tips

Maintain the correct water-flow direction

Incorrect direction may affect measurement accuracy.

Check for leakage

Leakage can influence measurement performance.

Keep the display correctly installed

The troubleshooting section specifically notes that an incorrectly or loosely installed display can affect real-time readings and measurement accuracy.

Use the correct connector

USA and EU configurations use different thread standards.

Stay within the pressure range

Do not exceed: 8 bar / 116 psi

Stay within the specified flow range

Use within: 0.5–40 L/min
