RAINPOINT HCS048B – Common Issues & Fixes

If the HCS048B does not operate or display data as expected, the information below covers common usage conditions and recommended actions.

These conditions are usually related to battery status, time synchronization, measurement settings, water-flow direction, or app data synchronization rather than product defects.

Condition 1: Screen does not light up or shows no display

Possible Causes

  • Batteries are installed incorrectly.
  • Battery contacts are poor.
  • Batteries are depleted.

What to Do

  • Reinstall all 3 AAA batteries.
  • Check battery polarity.
  • Check battery contacts.
  • Replace all batteries with new alkaline batteries if necessary.
  • Do not mix old and new batteries.

Condition 2: TODAY is not displayed

Possible Cause

The device time has not been synchronized through the app.

What to Do

  • Connect the HCS048B to the RainPoint Home app.
  • Allow the device time to synchronize.
  • Switch through the display pages again.
  • Check the TODAY screen.

Condition 3: TODAY value changes after connecting to the app

The device updates daily usage according to synchronized time.

This behavior can be normal.

What to Do

Connect the flow meter to the app periodically to keep device time synchronized.

Condition 4: Units cannot be switched

Unit switching is available only on the: FLOW RATE page

What to Do

  1. Switch to FLOW RATE.
  2. Press and hold the MENU button.
  3. Switch between:
    • GAL/Min
    • L/Min

The accumulated water unit changes to GAL or L at the same time.

Condition 5: TOTAL 1 or TOTAL 2 does not update immediately after clearing

Possible Cause

The new data has not yet synchronized with the app.

What to Do

  1. Open TOTAL 1 or TOTAL 2.
  2. Press and hold MENU for approximately 2 seconds.
  3. Connect to the app.
  4. Refresh the data.

Condition 6: Data changes or is cleared after re-pairing

Re-entering pairing mode resets and synchronizes device/app data.

What to Do

Avoid re-pairing unless necessary.

If important water usage information needs to be retained, review or save it before re-pairing where possible.

Condition 7: LAST value does not match the expected watering session

If water stops for less than approximately 30 seconds, the meter may treat the activity as part of the same LAST record.

What to Do

Keep the water completely off for more than 30 seconds before starting the next separate watering session.

Condition 8: Water usage readings appear inaccurate

Possible Cause

Water is flowing through the meter in the wrong direction.

What to Do

Check the inlet and outlet orientation.

Water must enter through the inlet side of the meter.

Condition 9: Water leaks around the faucet connection

What to Do

  • Make sure the connection is correctly aligned.
  • Hand-tighten the connector.
  • Do not use tools.

If leakage is related to stripped faucet threads or a damaged sealing surface, the manual recommends wrapping PTFE (Teflon) tape clockwise 2–3 turns around the male faucet thread before reconnecting.

Condition 10: HCS048B cannot connect to the RainPoint Home app

What to Check

  • Make sure the batteries have sufficient power.
  • Keep the phone within suitable wireless range.
  • After initial power-on, complete pairing within approximately 2 minutes.

If the connection window has expired:

  1. Switch to FLOW RATE.
  2. Press and hold the Direction Button for approximately 5 seconds.
  3. Wait for the wireless icon to flash.
  4. Add HCS048B again in RainPoint Home.
