This article covers common issues that may occur when using the RAINPOINT TTV103WRF WiFi Water Timer with TWG004WRF WiFi Gateway and provides basic troubleshooting steps before contacting customer support.
Situation 1: The Timer Cannot Connect to the Gateway or App
Possible causes:
- The WiFi network is unstable
- The Gateway is too far from the timer
- The timer is not in pairing mode
- The timer and Gateway are not paired correctly
What to do:
- Confirm that the Gateway is connected to a working 2.4 GHz WiFi network.
- Move the timer closer to the Gateway during pairing.
- Press and hold the timer button until the indicator light flashes rapidly to enter pairing mode.
- Follow the pairing steps in the RainPoint-Tuya App again.
- If necessary, remove the device from the App and reconnect it.
The timer communicates with the Gateway through 433 MHz RF and should remain within approximately 160 ft (49 m) in an open, unobstructed area. Walls, soil, and other obstacles may reduce the effective communication range.
Situation 2: The Valve Does Not Open or Close
Possible causes:
- Low battery power
- Debris or impurities in the water inlet
- Temporary network response delay
What to do:
- Replace all four batteries with new AA alkaline batteries.
- Check and clean the inlet filter if dirt or debris is present.
- Wait briefly and try the operation again.
- Press the timer button to manually test the valve.
A normal valve should produce a click when opening and another click when closing.
Situation 3: A Watering Plan Does Not Run as Scheduled
Possible causes:
- Rain Delay is active
- Battery power is low
- The watering plan is turned off or incomplete
- Debris is restricting the water inlet
What to do:
- Check whether Rain Delay is currently active.
- Confirm that the required watering plan is turned on.
- Check the start time, watering duration, and watering day or frequency settings.
- Replace the batteries if the battery level is low.
- Inspect and clean the inlet filter if necessary.
Once a watering schedule has been successfully set, the timer can continue following the preset schedule even if the phone temporarily loses network access.
Situation 4: Water Flow Data Appears Inaccurate
Possible causes:
- The timer is installed at an angle
- Water pressure is low or unstable
What to do:
- Install the timer in the recommended upright position.
- Check that the faucet provides stable water pressure.
- Make sure the timer is not tilted during normal operation.
The manual notes that normal water-flow measurement error can be approximately ±5%.
Situation 5: The Timer Loses Connection or Responds Slowly
Possible causes:
- The timer is too far from the Gateway
- Walls, soil, or other obstacles are interfering with the RF signal
- The WiFi network is unstable
- The Gateway is too far from the router
What to do:
- Keep the Gateway within a reliable 2.4 GHz WiFi range of the router.
- Reduce the distance between the timer and Gateway.
- Avoid placing the timer in an underground valve box or other enclosed location.
- Minimize walls, bushes, soil, or other obstacles between the timer and Gateway.
- Reconnect or re-pair the devices if the connection does not recover.
For best communication, the manual recommends installing the timer on a faucet approximately 4–8 ft (1.2–2.4 m) above the ground.
Situation 6: Water Leaks Around the Inlet or Outlet
Possible causes:
- The connector is not properly aligned
- The connection is loose
- The inlet filter or sealing component is not seated correctly
- The connector was overtightened during installation
What to do:
- Turn off the faucet and remove the timer.
- Check the inlet filter and sealing components for correct placement.
- Reinstall the timer with the inlet aligned straight with the faucet threads.
- Tighten the connection by hand only.
- Do not use tools or overtighten, especially on versions with plastic inlet or outlet components.
- Turn the water back on gradually and check for leaks.
