This article provides routine maintenance and care guidance for the RAINPOINT HGS-Z238 13-Pod Indoor Hydroponic Garden Kit.
Regular water changes, pump cleaning, tank cleaning, and proper handling of the light and electrical components help maintain reliable operation and healthy plant growth.
Changing the Water
The HGS-Z238 includes a drain hole at the bottom of the water tank.
To drain the tank:
- Turn off and unplug the device.
- Remove the rubber drain plug.
- Allow the water to drain completely.
- Reinstall the plug before refilling.
Recommended Water Change Frequency
Under normal conditions: Change the water approximately every 1–2 weeks.
If ambient temperatures are high and water evaporates quickly, change the water more frequently to prevent excessive nutrient concentration.
After plants begin flowering, the manual recommends changing the water and adding nutrients approximately once a week.
Cleaning the Water Pump
Clean the pump at least: Once per month
Before cleaning: Turn the power off.
Cleaning Steps
- Remove the filter cover from the water pump.
- Rinse the pump with water only.
- Reinstall the filter cover.
Do not use washing liquid or detergent, as this may affect the nutrient balance.
Do not operate the adapter if there is no water in the tank, as this may shorten pump life.
Cleaning the Water Tank
Remove dead or poorly growing plants promptly.
Decaying roots or plant material may contribute to:
- Root rot
- Bacterial growth
- Contamination of other plants
If root rot is found, clean and disinfect the water tank promptly so that other plants are not affected.
Light Board Care
The light panel is not waterproof.
For safe maintenance:
- Keep water away from the light board.
- Keep the adapter and electrical connections dry.
- Unplug the device before cleaning.
- Wipe surfaces only after power has been disconnected.
- Do not immerse electrical components.
Nutrient Solution Care
Always maintain equal proportions of A and B nutrient solution.
Do not overfeed.
Too much nutrient solution may damage plants.
Prepared nutrient solution stored in a cool, dark place can be kept for approximately 5 months, according to the manual.
Unopened solid nutrient granules may be stored for up to approximately 2 years under appropriate conditions.
Keep nutrient products away from children and pets.
General Care Tips
Maintain the water level
Keep the tank around 4–5 L during early growth.
Refill when the water level approaches 2 L.
Keep unused planting holes covered
Black covers help reduce light entering the tank and can help limit algae growth.
Use blackout stickers
Keep blackout stickers on the tops of planting baskets to reduce mold and algae around the sponge.
Prune plants regularly
Pruning helps:
- Prevent overcrowding
- Improve light distribution
- Improve airflow
- Maintain healthier plant growth
The manual recommends not pruning more than approximately one-third of a plant at one time.
Keep the light close to plants
Maintain approximately: 1–2 inches between the light board and the top of established plants.
Long-Term Storage
If the HGS-Z238 will not be used for an extended period:
- Unplug the device.
- Drain the water tank.
- Remove plant material and roots.
- Clean the tank.
- Clean the pump.
- Allow the system to dry.
- Store the power adapter in a dry location.
- Keep the light board and electrical components protected from water.
