RAINPOINT HGS-Z238 – Common Issues & Fixes

If the HGS-Z238 does not perform as expected during planting or everyday use, the information below covers common growing and operating conditions and recommended actions.

These situations are often related to seed quality, water level, nutrient concentration, lighting, pump circulation, or growing conditions rather than product defects.

Condition 1: Only a few seeds germinate or seedlings wither quickly

Possible Factors

  • Seed quality is unsuitable.
  • Nutrient concentration is incorrect.
  • Grow light position is unsuitable.
  • Grow dome usage is incorrect.
  • Growing temperature is outside the recommended range.

What to Do

  • Use seeds from a reliable source.
  • Maintain the correct nutrient-to-water ratio.
  • Keep the light approximately 1–2 inches above established plants.
  • Use the grow dome during germination and remove it after seeds germinate.
  • Maintain an ambient temperature of approximately 59°F–86°F (15°C–30°C).

Condition 2: The water pump is noisy

Possible Factors

  • Air may remain inside the pump during first use.
  • Water level may be below 2 L.
  • Debris may be stuck around the pump filter.

What to Do

  • Allow the pump to operate continuously for approximately 3–5 minutes, or restart it several times to release trapped air.
  • Refill the tank to approximately 4–5 L.
  • Turn off the power.
  • Remove the pump filter cover and check for debris.

Condition 3: The pump is not running

What to Check

  • Make sure the device is powered on.
  • Check that the Water Pump function is turned on.
  • Check that the water level is above approximately 2 L.
  • Check the pump power connection.

When Water Pump Mode is enabled, the pump automatically operates on a: 30 minutes ON / 30 minutes OFF cycle.

Condition 4: Plants grow tall, thin, or weak

These are often referred to as leggy seedlings.

Possible Factor

Insufficient light.

What to Do

  • Lower the light board.
  • Keep it approximately 1–2 inches above the top of the plants.
  • Prune overly tall plants as needed.
  • Maintain a consistent lighting schedule.

Condition 5: Seeds do not germinate

Temperature or seed quality may affect germination.

What to Do

  • Check the temperature requirements for the specific plant.
  • Allow sufficient germination time.
  • Some seeds may germinate within 24 hours, while others may take 2–4 weeks.
  • If necessary, test the seeds in soil to rule out a seed-quality issue.

Condition 6: Plants do not flower or produce fruit

What to Do

  • Select Flowers & Fruits Mode.
  • Maintain the water level.
  • Add A and B nutrient solution in the recommended proportions.
  • Check the nutrient concentration.
  • Pollinate flowering plants manually if required.

The manual specifically recommends hand-pollinating crops such as tomatoes, peppers, strawberries, eggplants, and cucumbers when necessary.

Condition 7: Mold or algae develops around the sponge

Possible Factors

  • Water quality
  • High humidity
  • Poor-quality or unhealthy seeds
  • Light entering unused planting holes

What to Do

  • Remove unhealthy seeds or plants.
  • Drain and clean the water tank.
  • Discard affected sponges.
  • Cover unused planting positions with black covers.
  • Cover the top of active sponges using the supplied blackout stickers.

Condition 8: The sponge is difficult to remove from a mature plant

The manual recommends waiting until the plant is strong enough before transplanting.

For transplanting:

  • Wait until roots are well developed around the sponge.
  • Split the sponge carefully if necessary.
  • Keep only one strong seedling where multiple plants are growing together.
